Day 3. Old vs New.

A lot has changed in photography over the past few years. It doesn't seem like that long ago that I was using film. I'm not even sure where to get it processed these days. Sure, I have the chemicals and equipment to do my own black and white, but the colour stuff is a different matter. Some of my really old cameras, such as the Agfa Isolette, didn't even have meters. You had to guess what to set them to from experience, or use a handheld meter.

These days, even a dSLR can be used just like a point and shoot camera, the brains inside do all the work for you, unless you want to take control yourself. The lens I'm using on the Frankencamera is completely manual, I even have to remember to stop it down (close the aperture) when I use it. So getting the exposure right is a bit hit-and-miss. I can take a few trial shots, something I couldn't have done with film, or I can use a handheld meter. Guess what, there's an app for that.

The Weston Master V is what I used to use. I'm pretty sure I paid a lot more for it than what they go for these days. It still works though and unlike the iPhone, it doesn't need batteries. Just like the cameras I used to use it with. It doesn't come with ads for hot videos either.

Pic taken with a Canon point and shoot, set to fully automatic.
